Cuneiform Written on Clay
A Theory
Since the pictographs of the original Sumerian language
were written in clay which could be dried for storage,
the following explanation of the evolution of the original pictographic writing into
the cuneiform script seems very plausible.
This explanation may prove successful in archeology's "court of competitive plausibility".
The wedge shapes of cuneiform originally came from tears in the clay made while writing.
