I believe this symbol is a metaphor describing your own personal direction it's neither straight nor going-back. The N represents needing to find our way in this world and the cross can be a symbol for a multitude of religions so this symbol means to seek ones meaning in life. You must either search for it or go nowhere and never know.

North of the universal cross on your right, put simply, go straight up til you come about the rising east, in other words just down this path up the hill then bank right.
