Usually, a blissymbol which looks like a natural object is assumed to be a noun even when it doesn't have the noun indicator above it.

For example, this symbol:

means a Building

the noun indicator.

and a few others are a different matter.
The symbol above means roof only when it has the noun indicator above it.
Otherwise it means Protection :

This allows a concrete object like a roof to represent an abstract concept which can then be adapted to many other meanings.

For example, just adding an
adjective indicator to the protection symbol gives us the adjective, safe :
